British Life Photography Awards Announces 2014 Winners
05, March 2015: The British Life Photography Awards (BLPA) has proudly announced the winners of its first ever competition. Established in 2014, the awards recognize amateur and professional photographers. They also promote documentary photography.
In the British Weather category, Carla Regler Photography of Cornwall was recognized for her work, “Porthleven Washout”. The contest was supported by Country Life Magazine, Conde Nast Traveller, Time Out, Digital SLR Magazine, and the Ilex Press. The closing date for submissions was on September 20, 2014, for which the judging began soon after.
It is intended as a celebration of photographs. These can be provoking, poignant, illuminating, or humorous. Capturing the spirit of British life, its people, and the nation as a whole, the photos and the awards are presented in ten categories. They include street life, rural life, and portraiture. A separate, special award was presented for best documentary feature.
“The British Life Photography Awards are presented in various categories representing the wealth of photographic material right here at home. Broad and diverse, the photographs reveal layers of life that speak louder than any words about our country,” judge Caroline Metcalfe said.
Catering to the exploding interest in photography and the accelerating technology, BLPA aims to capture aspects of British life while promoting documentary and reportage photography. It also strives to inspire and motivate young people in the field. The overall winner received Sony products including a television, camera, and lens.
The British Weather winner received a Sony a6000 camera kit. Similar photography products were awarded to winners in the other categories.
