CONCEPT Professional Training and The Forensic Training Academy offer training on Evaluation of Criminal Responsibility / Insanity at John Jay College of Criminal Justice
CONCEPT Professional Training, a global leader in online professional training in forensic mental health and the Forensic Training Academy, announced today they are partnering to host Summer Training Institute 2016 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice June 13 - 17, 2016. Attendees will participate in in-person workshops with internationally renowned experts in the forensic mental health field. One key professional training program is the Evaluation of Criminal Responsibility/ Insanity is a 2-day workshop presented by Dr. Ira Packer. Dr. Packer has been a practicing forensic psychologist for over 35 years, with a particular focus on evaluations of criminal responsibility, competence to stand trial, and violence risk assessment.
This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of evaluations of criminal responsibility (insanity; mental state at the time of the offense). Best practices will be described and the empirical basis for evaluation in this area will highlighted. This in-person workshop is relevant for professionals who want to develop skills in forensic evaluations, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals who intend to add evaluation of criminal responsibility (insanity) to their forensic practice.
This 2-Day workshop will specifically cover:
* An overview of the legal standards and context for criminal responsibility evaluations will be presented. The empirical research on criminal responsibility and insanity acquittees will be presented and best practices in preparing for these evaluations will be emphasized. Finally, data collection and the importance of third-party and corroborating data will be discussed.
* The evaluation process, including the interview and relevant testing, will be discussed with a focus on case formulation. Case conceptualization, data integration, formulation, report writing, and expert testimony regarding insanity and criminal responsibility will be discussed.
