Dr Oz on the Health Benefits of Transcendental Meditation
Popular TV personality Dr Oz spoke at a New York town hall event where he talked about the health benefits of Transcendental Meditation.
“I use it in my office for my patients all the time. They don’t always take the advice, it seems too simple.”
Dr Oz went on to talk about the science supporting the meditation technique.
“The data is actually pretty compelling. There have been lots of studies looking at TM [Transcendental Meditation]. Without any question it seems to reduce blood pressure as much as many prescription medications and if I can give you a solution that reduces blood pressure, which is the number one cause of ageing, that doesn’t require medication, I think we ought to take advantage of that.”
Chairman of the Brighton Meditation centre, Mark Heath, commented;
“All over the world we are seeing more and more doctors recommending Transcendental Meditation to their patients which I believe is down to the overwhelming amount of evidence showing a whole range of health benefits for anyone practicing this simple, effortless technique.”
Speaking in New York, Dr Oz was careful to point out that people should still seek more traditional health care approaches where appropriate.
“I’m not saying don’t have the heart surgery, [just] go out and do TM [Transcendental Meditation] and I’ll see you in a year if you’re alive! It’s usually a bit more thoughtful than that.”
