North West Calgary Endodontist Announces Endodontist Services
Royal Oak Endodontics recently announced an expansion of their endodontist services for patients in North West Calgary.
“When the pulp of the tooth is contaminated or inflamed, then that means the patient needs an endodontist to perform root canal therapy,” explains Calgary root canal dentist, Dr. Eduardo Ghaname of Royal Oak Endodontics, who gives a lecture on Endodontics to Endodontic graduate students in the University of Michigan Dental School. “That’s what we mainly do here, and it’s a nonsurgical procedure. We even make it painless for our patients.”
During the therapy, the inflamed pulp is eliminated and the endodontist carefully cleans and decontaminates the inside of the tooth. It is then filled and sealed, and afterwards the tooth is restored with a filling or crown, so that the tooth functions just like any other tooth. The treatment can last for a lifetime with appropriate care.
Alberta endodontic practice, Royal Oak Endodontics, also offers endodontic retreatment. “Sometimes the tooth treated with root canal therapy doesn’t receiver fully, and it may become infected again a few months or even years after the therapy, and that’s when endodontic retreatment is needed,” says Calgary endodontist Dr. Ghaname. “We will reopen the tooth to access the root canal filling material and basically do the same root canal treatment.”
After the endodontic retreatment, the tooth will again need a new crown or restoration placed on the tooth to protect it and help it to gain full function. “It’s just like a regular root canal treatment, except that it’s done on a tooth that had already received root canal treatment before,” clarifies Dr. Ghaname.
Sometimes, retreatment won’t work when there’s an infection that lingers or develops after the root canal treatment. That may mean the patient needs an endodontic treatment called an apicoectomy.
During the root canal procedure, some contaminated particles may have entrenched themselves inside the tiny branches off the primary canal. These contaminated particles are causing the reinfection in the area, and that means these will have to be removed.
“To be sure that the contaminated particles are all eliminated, the apex of the tooth is removed completely in the apicoectomy procedure,” says North West Calgary endodontist Dr. Ghaname. “A dental filling is used to seal the end of the root.”
With these endodontist procedures, at Royal Oak Endodontics the patients can feel safe knowing that any complication regarding the root canal treatment can be handled properly.
