Freedom Boat Club takes Daniel kids out on the water

Jacksonville, Fla., August 4, 2015 – While it wasn’t exactly the day they had planned, the weather allowed a few hours of fun on the water for a group of young adults from the Daniel Foundation.  Freedom Boat Club, based at Julington Creek Marina, paired up with Daniel to award this group of eight young people with a boat trip.

Freedom Boat Club had planned to take them from Julington Creek Marina to Green Cove Springs and Cunningham Creek, but the weather altered those plans.  Instead, Captain Kloe took the group down Julington Creek and Durbin Creek, for a scenic ride to look at nature. The group saw a gator, lots of birds, and scenic waterway homes.

This was the fifth time in the past three years Daniel and Freedom have paired up to award these kids.  “Not only was this a great day for these extraordinary students, it was a great day for Freedom Boat Club as well,” said Lisa Almeida, co-owner of the Jacksonville affiliate of FBC.  “Being with these kids and putting a smile on their faces is a gift for us.  It is so rewarding to be able to bring some fun into their lives.  The kids in this program are all great kids and they deserve this day on the water.”

In order to qualify for the program, the young adults must be in school full-time, work a minimum of 20 hours per week, and attend groups and therapy, as well as workshops on budgeting and life skills.  In addition, all the youth are randomly drug tested and visited at work or school to make sure they are on task.  Many of these clients aged out of foster care without ever having had a forever home, some were found homeless, and others were separated from their families due to death.  All of these clients are without a family to lean on and without a home to call their own.  They reside on campus in an Independent Living Village.

The Daniel Foundation (www.danielkids.org) offers an array of health and social services geared toward helping children with a variety of emotional, social and behavioral issues.   Freedom Boat Club’s local franchise has developed a special relationship with the Daniel Foundation and its youth.  They enjoy being able to share the joy of boating with people who might otherwise never get the chance.

If you know of a charitable group or non-profit organization in the Jacksonville area that deserves a day of fun in the sun out on the water, contact the Freedom Boat Club at (904) 588-2417.
