Recent Study: Romania Oil & Gas Report Q4 2014

ExxonMobil is drilling the Domino-2 appraisal well which has the potential to transform the Romanian upstream if successful. Further exploration efforts in the Black Sea from international oil companies create upside risk to the country's production outlook. The growing presence of IOCs is a necessary step to take advantage of Romania's increasingly expensive and technically challenging oil and gas developments. Chevron is restarting shale gas exploration after suspending operations since October 2013 due to protests.

The main trends and developments for Romania's oil and gas sector include:

 * On July 21 2014, ExxonMobil and OMV spud the Domino-2 appraisal well to assess the extent of the Domino-1 discovery made in 2012.
 * In July 2014, OMV Petrom made a shallow water oil discovery at the Marina-1 well in the Istria XVIII perimeter.
 * In line with our forecast, oil production Romania saw a return to growth in 2013 for the first time since 1994. Oil consumption fell for a 5th consecutive year.
 * OMV Petrom completed its EUR600mn investment programme on the Petrobrazi refinery in June. The refinery will be slightly downsized, but capable of producing more diesel.
