Saint Jude Retreats Announces the Release of Video of Steve Slate’s “Our Relationship to

Addiction”  Tedx Talk in Tahoe City, CA

Saint Jude Retreats announces the release of video from Steven Slate’s Tedx Talk in Tahoe City,

CA on September 17th. Mr. Slate spoke at the relationship themed event discussing “Our

Relationship to Addiction”. He explains a unique approach taken by Saint Jude Retreats that says

Treatment Doesn’t Work and instead actually creates addicts. His presentation focused on the

Freedom Model from an upcoming book he co-authored with Mark Scheeren. The video can be

viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBMUPgwLaO0

The Freedom Model takes a revolutionary approach to substance use that dispels the fear-based

myths of addiction thus freeing substance users from “addiction”. When only 1 in 10 people get

treatment for addiction, how is it possible the 90% who don’t get treatment overwhelmingly do

better and end their addiction while 67% of those who do get treatment get worse? Steve Slate

explains this and other key aspects of the Freedom Model in this important Tedx Talk video.

Mr. Slate addresses how society’s beliefs concerning substance use can influence outcomes for

those seeking substance use help. Fear based beliefs and addiction myths promoted by treatment

can condemn substance users to a lifetime of struggle and relapse. By rejecting these same

beliefs, substance users can quickly and completely resolve their “addiction” problem. What you

believe about addiction can make or break if you or a loved one becomes an addict struggling

with a lifetime of relapse or moves successfully past excessive substance use totally and forever.

Steve Slate is a Research Associate with Baldwin Research Institute and Director of the Saint

Jude Program NYC. Mr. Slate is co-author of BRI’s Saint Jude Program, 13th Edition, and the

upcoming Freedom Model with Mark Scheeren. He has also contributed chapters for college

textbooks on addiction and abnormal psychology and is the author of The Clean Slate Addiction

Site (www.thecleanslate.org/blog ), which focuses on dispelling addiction myths with research

and reason. Mr. Slate solved his own issues with substance use over 15 years ago by rejecting

ineffective treatment models of disease and powerlessness and instead found a solution in the

choice based approach of the Saint Jude Program.

Saint Jude Retreats is America’s original non 12 Step, non-treatment alternative program for

substance use. Saint Jude is a nonprofit offering residential, online, and home programs for those

struggling with drug and alcohol problems. Their upcoming Freedom Model program and method

of non-judgmental presentation through Cognitive Behavioral Learning (CBL) is the original and

only truly non-disease, non-treatment alternative for drug and alcohol addiction.
