The holiday season brings visitors. Check the guest room and if you need a new mattress in Culver City, here are some things to consider.
The problem is all kinds of people will be sleeping on the mattress. Some want firm. Some want soft.
"This is actually easier to solve than you might think. Most people like a medium to medium-firm mattress," said R Mattress owner Peter Pocsaji. "When n doubt, go for a firm mattress. You can always add a soft mattress topper."
Some guests may have allergies to certain materials.
"This is a tough one. Some people are allergic to latex. So if you get a latex or certain memory foam mattresses, they can't use that. Cotton allergies are extremely rare, so that's your best choice," Mr. Pocsaji said. "Wool allergies are actually an allergy to the lanolin in the wool. This is rare too, but more common than the cotton allergy."
If the guest room doubles as space for something else, then the room needs some kind of bed that either folds away, stores or converts. The problem is most of these bed are very uncomfortable, Mr. Pocsaji said. Recent advances in the industry have created replacement mattresses which are much more comfortable.
"Even the best fold up mattresses won't be as comfortable as the best regular mattress. At best, they are as good as a mid-range mattress," he said. "If you have to use one of these, put children on it. They don't weigh as much as adults which makes a difference when sleeping on things like futons."
