Dual-lens rear camera coming! OUKITEL releases the cost-effective U20 Plus
OUKITEL, a Chinese smartphone brand, is acting extraordinary well recentlyby releasing one budget-friendly smartphones one after another. Last month, they throw the U15S- a metal covered device with some impressive specs and features for only $150. Now, we get the OUKITEL U20 Plus — a new mobile phone on the Android scene with a dual camera, lower-midrange specs, and quite the attractive price.
The U20 Plus features a polycarbonate body with curvy sides for ergonomics hand feel and rounded-off corners of the glass panel for pretty looks. On the front screen, it gets a 5.5inch, 1080 x 1920 display with IPS panel made by SHARP. On the back, it designs a fingerprint scannerwhich can also be used as a gesture control pad — you can tap or longpress on it to take a photo, return to the home screen, play or pause music, and other pre-selected functions.
The SoC that lies under the hood is MediaTek's MT6737T — a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz. It hovers around the range of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 and 415. OUKITEL deliberately chose the MT6737T chipset as a low-cost solution, which is standard to support the phone's dual-camera module. To continue, it is getting 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB ROM on board. For the battery, it is a SCUD-made 3,300 mAh cell, together with the optimized software, it should last quite a bit longer than others.
On to the important question — why does this phone have a dual camera and how does it use it? Well, the OUKITEL U20 Plus' main sensor is a 13 MP Sony IMX135, but it's assisted by a secondary one — a 0.3 MP sensor, which is only used to collect image data like distance, depth, and light. Using this, OUKITEL’s software algorithms should deliver quality photographs and will also give you post-processing options for bokeh focus effects, which is always cool.
On the front, there is a 5 MP selfie camera, which the phone's software can use for 8 MP interpolated photos, if you insist on higher-res images of your mug.
The software on board is Android 6 Marshmallow, re-skinned to fit OUKITEL’s needs. It offers cool extra features, such as wake gestures (draw a simple letter on sleeping screen to open a specific app), Super Screenshot (scroll down a page and keep adding to a screenshot), screen record, and has 6 different UI themes out of the box. The phone supports dual SIM standby, with slots for a micro SIM and nano SIM card in a single tray. Note that if you choose to occupy the nano SIM slot, you will have no room for the microSD card for storage expansion.
The OUKITEL U20 Plus is currently up for pre-sale in two colors — Space Grey and Champagne Gold — at GearBest. This week, a special flash sale will take place, where the price for the first 100 units will be $89.99, and the next 100 — $99.99. Then, it will rise back up to $129.99, which is still pretty much a bargain. As always, when buying a handset online, do check if it is compatible with the bands that your carrier provides mobile service over. The Oukitel U20 Plus works on:
· 3G: 900/2100MHz
· 4G: 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz
