Can buying an ID card make you a travel agent?
By Rick Rahim
If it sounds too good to be true, it is. You’re invited to a seminar promising a free vacation if you listen to a presentation on discount travel services. The pitch is that you can become a travel agent with an "ID Card" that will get you free or discounted travel.
But will an ID Card really get you the promised discounts from airlines, hotels, and car rental agencies? Probably not.
The Online Business Bureau warns consumers not to be misled by travel card "mills" and other suspect discount travel service operations. The travel industry is on to the scheme and the ID card you will be sold is likely worthless. Most airlines and hotels will not honor your new "credentials."
Before falling for a "too good to be true" pitch, do your homework.
