Some A.O. Smith water heaters are recalled
WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 1,500 A.O Smith-brand gas water heaters due to a safety hazard.
The CPSC said the natural and propane gas water heaters' flue temperatures can exceed safe limits, posing a fire hazard. Also the water heater's exhaust can leak into surrounding rooms, producing a carbon monoxide hazard.
The 75-gallon water heaters, manufactured by the A.O. Smith Water Products Co. of Ashland City, Tenn., have "A.O. Smith" or "State" printed on the side of the unit. The A.O. Smith and State models and serial numbers included in the recall are available at http://www.hotwater.com/recall.html.
The U.S. manufactured water heaters were sold nationwide from November 2007 through January 2008 for between $1,000 and $2,500.
